Diagnosed with ADHD at 46?

Feeling like you’ve wasted years? Like your best days are behind you?

I get it. I WAS you.

But here’s what I learned in the 27 years since my diagnosis:

Late diagnosis isn’t the end. It’s the beginning.

At 73, I’m:

·         Fitter than I was at 50 (24kg lost and maintained)

·         Building successful businesses that work WITH my brain

·         Teaching thousands of ADHD adults to thrive, not just survive

There’s no finish line. But there IS transformation.

Let me show you what 27 years of ADHD expertise looks like..

Retrain your Mind – Rebuild your Life

You Don't Need to Fight the Craving. You Need to Redirect It.

A 60-second reset for the moment your brain goes looking for a hit.

The Moment

The Cupboard Door Is Already Open

You know the moment. Trying to finish a task with a deadline closing in. Nothing’s working, and your brain starts chasing a fast dopamine hit because it’s running low.

That part wasn’t your fault.

This time: what do you actually do in that exact moment? Not tomorrow. Not with a meal plan. Right now, standing at the cupboard or fridge.

The craving isn’t asking for sugar. It’s asking for a hit of something. Anything that delivers can answer the call.

The Science

Redirect, Don’t Resist

Willpower is the wrong tool here — it’s trying to suppress a signal that’s already firing. Suppression takes energy you don’t have at 3pm, and it usually loses.

The better move is redirection. Give the dopamine-seeking system something else to respond to — something fast, sensory, and immediate. The craving doesn’t care what satisfies it. It just wants a signal.

This is why a sudden change in temperature, sound, or movement can interrupt a craving almost instantly. It’s not magic. It’s just a competing signal arriving first.

The Training

Three Tools for the Exact Moment

Action Step 1: The 5-4-3-2-1 Reset

Stop where you are. Name 5 things you can see. 4 things you can touch. 3 things you can hear. 2 things you can smell. Then do 1 minute of movement — walk to the kettle, stretch, anything. This pulls your brain out of the craving loop and back into the room you’re standing in. By the time you finish, the urgency has usually dropped.

Action Step 2: The Cold Shock

Run your wrists under cold water for 15 seconds — quick, and available anywhere there’s a tap. No sink nearby? Hold an ice cube in your palm or press it to the inside of your wrist for 10–15 seconds instead. Either way, the sudden temperature change delivers a sharp sensory signal that often breaks the craving’s grip on its own.

Action Step 3: Pre-set Nutrition

Decide your snack before the craving hits — not during. A small handful of almonds with a square or two of dark chocolate (85%+) gives your brain real building blocks for dopamine, plus protein and healthy fat to steady blood sugar. Keep a portion already measured out — a small container or snap-lock bag — so there’s zero decision-making in the moment. The goal isn’t to never eat. It’s to make sure that when you do, it’s something that works with your brain instead of spiking and crashing it.

You don’t need more willpower. You need a plan that’s already waiting for you.

Pick one. Try it the next time the cupboard door opens before you’ve decided anything.

Final Word

This Was Never About the Sugar

Your brain isn’t broken for wanting a hit. It’s doing its job — just looking in the wrong place. These tools don’t fight that. They just give it somewhere better to look.

Which one will you try first — the Reset, the cold shock, or the pre-set snack?
